Place in a bright location with ample air circulation; keep growing medium moist but not overwatered. Mini rose seeds will germinate in 4-6 weeks. Once seedlings develop their second set of leaves, begin watering with plant fertilizer mixed at half-strength.

Tip: Mini roses germinate best in cooler temperatures between 60° and 70°F.

No drainage? No problem. Easily add drainage by drilling a hole in the bottom-center of the pot.

Lavender:
Dissolve growing medium pellets in 3/4 cup of water, fluff with fork, and place into pot. Gently press seeds into surface of growing medium and do not cover - lavender seeds need light to germinate. Everything you need to start some great plants!

You get 2 kits in this set to grow lavender and a rose. Just follow the directions and plant the seeds. There is only enough soul for about 3/4 of the pots, so you might want to add a little more soil. These would make great gifts. Great price too.

Cute growing pails, viable seeds

This kit contains cute painted pails and plenty of potting medium. The pellets rehydrate into just enough "soil" to fill each pail. Then you plant the seeds and wait - according to the instructions, they should germinate in 4-6 weeks. I planted one rose seed and one lavender seed in their respective pails, and nothing has happened yet; though it is only day 15 so I wouldn't expect anything. However, I also planted some of each kind of seed in my hydroponic garden. Note, this is not what the instructions tell you to do -- it was my own experiment. I fertilize with A+B, and have a grow light on 18 hours per day. Both seeds have germinated as of day 15. This is way sooner than I expected, but these were brand new pods, with no possibility of another seed being planted in there. I still can't believe it, but I am reporting exactly what happened! So I highly recommend this set. Knowing what I do now, I probably would have started the seeds in the hydroponic setup, then moved the seedlings to the pail once they were bigger. The seeds are viable, and the pails are really cute. I'm sure eventually the seeds in the pail will germinate as well; if they go by the instructions say, it will be another 13 days at least. I just wanted to get this review out there for anyone who might want to fast-track the growing process!

Fun for kids

Got these as a Valentines gift for 2 curious little boys. At first they weren't excited about the pail colors but once we got to adding the dirt pellets, making them expand with water and playing with the dirt, they were sold. The process of the pellets and water was fascinating to them. Since we just planted them I can't really say if they'll sprout or not, but I'm hopeful. The cost for them is a bit high, but since I was able to use them as a science lesson and might get some pretty flowers for my garden from them, I consider them worth it.

Convenient Kit, Time Will Tell On Efficacy

My 5 star rating is tentative and contingent on results. So far, the packaging, equipment and directions set it up for a good rating. Will follow up once results are known.
